About this role
Earth Science Data Information Systems is at the forefront of utilizing cutting-edge missions to address environmental and climate challenges. Our team is passionate about making a positive impact on the world, and we are seeking talented individuals to join us in our mission to predict air quality pollutants through the application of neural networks and machine learning.
The data science intern will work closely with our experienced team to analyze geostationary satellite data (TEMPO) and integrate traffic datasets to assess the impact of traffic jams on air quality due to the construction, with a focus on nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) emissions, a primary pollutant from vehicular congestion. Utilizing data from the Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) instrument, the study will analyze diurnal cycles of NO₂ concentrations during periods of significant traffic disruption caused by the construction. By integrating satellite-based measurements with ground-based monitoring and traffic data, this research seeks to quantify the contribution of traffic jams to localized air quality degradation. The project will also explore temporal patterns and the potential health impacts on surrounding communities, offering valuable insights for developing effective mitigation strategies and informing policy decisions for future infrastructure projects. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges associated with traffic congestion in urban areas due to construction.
You will explore and implement neural network techniques to develop a Jupyter Notebook to integrate between the different datasets
