About this role
Hardware, Software, and Electrical system development in support of crew health and performance systems on the International Space Station and future exploration missions like Artemis and Mars Transit. Intern applicants will work hardware, software, electrical, or a combination based on skill set and interests. This position is within the HumanWorks Lab in the Engineering Directorate.
-Hardware-
Development of human health countermeasure systems, possibly including musculoskeletal and sensorimotor trainers. Efforts from the intern will likely be heavy in development and integration of hardware and software, troubleshooting, and testing. This will involve utilizing skills from different disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, biomechanics, and software/firmware. Additional project work should be available, likely in software and/or physiological sensing.
-Software-
Possible development of custom device-agnostic, one interface software system (including user interface) capable of easily integrating new crew exercise systems with biomedical sensors integration, VR and other capabilities. Possible development of a virtual exercise training software system to provide real-time guidance on resistance exercise technique. Possible development of virtual exercise environments to improve astronaut performance, socialization, sensory motor adaptation and enjoyment during workouts. Possible development of physiologic and cognitive state assessment tools using SI and ML combined with user data.
This is an IN-PERSON internship on-site at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.
