About this role

This position requires that you must be a US Citizen for consideration and meet all Federal Contractor employee requirements.  Nomad GCS does not support the H1B Visa for this position.\

Position:          Electrical Engineering Intern

Division:          Innovative Solutions Group
Department:     Electrical Engineering

Status:             Internship (Full Time)

Overview:  As an Electrical Engineer Intern within the Innovative Solutions Group, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the full product lifecycle for electrical systems that power Nomad's mission-critical platforms. Working closely with Senior Engineers and mentors, you will assist in taking electrical designs from concept through documentation, schematic development, wire harness design, and physical bring-up/testing.

This internship is structured after our Electrical Engineer I (Entry / Developing) framework, focusing on building foundational electrical engineering competencies, applying academic theory to real hardware, and getting direct exposure to manufacturing, power distribution, and prototype environments.

Key Responsibilities & Core Learning Activities

- ECAD & Documentation: Support senior engineers by creating, revising, and updating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using ECAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical or similar).

- System Design & Power Distribution: Assist with basic calculations and subsystem design for low-voltage (12V/24V DC), high-voltage (120V/240V AC), control systems, and grounding/protection.

- Manufacturing & Hands-On Support: Respond to basic manufacturing questions under guidance, assist with prototype builds, observe vehicle harness routing, and support initial board/system bring-up and troubleshooting.

- Testing & Validation: Help set up, execute, and document test procedures using standard lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies) to verify system safety and performance.

- Standards & Processes: Learn Nomad electrical standards, drawing conventions, applicable safety/electrical codes (NEC, UL, IEC), and Engineering Change processes.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside cross-functional team members across Mechanical, IT Integration, Human Factors, Software Engineering, Production, Quality, and Project Management.

- Time Tracking & Professionalism: Track project hours daily, incorporate feedback to minimize design rework, and model Nomad Core Values.

Discipline & Team Exposure - Nomad Engineering is organized into key disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, IT, Human Factors, Software) and operational teams. As an intern, you may gain exposure to one or more of the following areas:

- Standards & Modularity: Engineering templates, modules, and rules for scale.

- Design Engineering: Executing project-level CAD and custom configurations.

- Advanced Engineering: First-of-kind prototyping and novel mechanical systems.

- Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering: Ensuring manufacturability, safety, and continuous improvement on the production floor.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science program in Electrical Engineering or a related field (typically completed sophomore or junior year).

- ECAD Skills: Prior course project or hands-on experience with ECAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar).

- Engineering Fundamentals: Coursework or project-based exposure to AC/DC circuit theory, power distribution, control systems, and basic electrical safety.

- Mindset & Communication: Eager to learn, quick to incorporate feedback, self-motivated, and able to communicate effectively with peers and production staff.

Physical Demands:

- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.

- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.

- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

- Occasional climbing or hands-on testing activities.

- Ability to work in office, shop, and vehicle environments as needed.

- Ability to work safely around energized systems when required.

- Must be able to travel as needed on occasion.

Working Environment:

- Combination of office, production floor, and vehicle-based environments.

- Exposure to manufacturing noise, electrical equipment, and testing environments.

- PPE required when entering production or testing areas.
