Overview
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Building Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Grand Rapids, MI or Lansing, MI office.
Your Role
- Participate in the A/E design process, from initial project concepts though final construction, for a variety of building types.
- Learn how to apply key engineering principles and calculations in the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Suppression systems.
- Use REVIT to incorporate ductwork, piping, plumbing, and fire protection layouts and equipment into 3D building models, with mentoring and direction from experienced staff.
- Research HVAC and Plumbing equipment and systems commonly used in the design of commercial and industrial buildings.
- Participate in occasional construction observations, field investigations, and assist with construction administration documentation.
- Collaborate and communicate with all project team members, including architects, structural and electrical engineers through regular project meetings and design workshops.
- Gain and understanding of the practice of engineering to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
About You
- EXPERIENCE: No prior experience is required if accepted into an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in a related technical field; basic proficiency with AutoCAD or REVIT preferred.
- EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 hours towards a Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2027).
- SPECIAL SKILLS: Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases; strong communication and organizational skills.

Additional Information
Expected compensation range is between $25 - $31 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
