About this role

**About Numen**

Numen is a San Francisco-based team building technology to drive cancer mortality toward zero. Our goal is to compress every patient's journey from the first signal of disease to optimal treatment with earlier, easier detection. Backed by Y Combinator, we are a dynamic team across bioscience, engineering, machine learning, and design, building diagnostics from the ground up.

**About the role**

This role supports electrical, mechanical, and software tasks, under the direction of an experienced engineering team. The ideal candidate is someone who is eager to build systems that solve real-world problems, with the ability to critically evaluate signals and systems outputs.

**What you'll do**

* Design and lay out simple PCBs (sensor breakouts, interface boards, test fixtures)
* Solder and rework SMD and through-hole components; assemble and debug prototype PCB boards
* Write firmware for microcontroller-based test setups (data acquisition, motor/valve control, serial communication)
* Build user interfaces for bench instruments and control tools
* Design and fabricate prototypes and fixtures with rapid manufacturing tools (laser cutting, 3D printing)
* Run bench characterization of sensors and readout electronics; record and organize data

**Requirements**

* BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical, Chemical or other relevant Engineering discipline
* Hands-on experience with PCB design tools, CAD software, and soldering
* Bench skills utilizing oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators

**Nice to have**

* Analog front-end or low-noise measurement experience
* Signal processing experience
* Experience running basic biological protocols
* Exposure to design controls or documentation in a regulated setting

**Why Join Us:**

* Be part of a visionary team that is set to change the way diagnostic testing is done.
* Work in a collaborative and innovative environment with leading experts across various fields.
* Competitive salary and benefits package.
* Opportunities for professional growth and development in a fast-paced startup setting.
* Make a tangible impact on healthcare and improve patient outcomes through at-home diagnostics.

**Even if you feel like you don’t meet all of the qualifications, we encourage you to apply!**

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other underrepresented people tend to only apply when they meet 100% of the qualifications.
