About this role
Job Title: Quality Control Specialist
Job Summary: Verifies embroidery machine setups against production paperwork and inspects first-run and finished work for quality
Reports to: Production Manager/Supervisor
Position Overview:
The Quality Control Specialist, under the direction of the Production Manager/Supervisor, is the checkpoint between machine setup and production on the embroidery floor. This role verifies that every 6-head embroidery machine is set up exactly as the paperwork specifies before the first run, inspects the first run for logo placement and stitch quality, and spot-checks finished work on carts. Catching errors at setup and first run prevents costly rework, wasted garments, and missed deadlines. This is a floor-based role requiring the QC Specialist to remain on their feet for the majority of the day while maintaining active communication with embroidery operators. In addition, will serve as a representative of the company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration and discretion in all interactions with other members of SGB.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performing pre-run checks on 6-head embroidery machines once an operator has an order set up, comparing the machine to the paperwork
- Confirming the correct thread colors are tied on, in the right order, and pulled through the full thread path
- Verifying the needle order is entered correctly in the machine
- Verifying the logo is set to the correct orientation (flipped or unflipped, as the order requires)
- Signing off on the paperwork once the setup matches, releasing the operator to start the first run
- Responding when the operator raises their flag after the first run to inspect logo placement, including measurement and correct location on the garment
- Inspecting first-run logo quality, including thread tension and any logo or design issues
- Providing a second sign-off when the first run passes, or working with the operator to correct issues before production continues
- Inspecting finished work on carts between operator flag calls for stitch quality, placement consistency, and visible defects
- Responding promptly to operator flags so machines are not left waiting
- Keeping sign-off paperwork accurate and complete
- Reporting recurring setup, digitizing, or machine issues to the Production Manager/Supervisor
- Training embroidery operators and new team members on setup verification and quality standards when needed
- Training new embroidery machine operators on machine setup, operation, and quality expectations as needed
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent attention to detail and the discipline to check every item, every time
- Ability to read and follow production paperwork and work orders accurately
- Basic math and measuring skills, including using a tape measure or ruler to verify placement specs
- Ability to give direct, respectful feedback to operators and stand by a sign-off decision
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent verbal communication skills and positive, interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic and reliability
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with multi-head embroidery machines, thread paths, needle assignments, and logo flip/orientation settings
- Ability to recognize tension problems, thread breaks, puckering, and registration issues
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience:
- Prior experience in embroidery or apparel decoration production preferred
- Prior quality control or inspection experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain on feet and mobile on the production floor for the majority of the workday
