About this role
The Softgoods team at Meta sits at the intersection between Industrial Design, Human Interface, and Engineering. We combine unique materials and specialized processes to deliver product functions, finishes, and experiences that would not otherwise be possible.
Our team works horizontally to develop components like the facial interfaces and headbands for Quest devices, the textile for the Neural Wrist Band, and products like our charging cases for Meta Glasses.
As a Softgoods Product Design Intern at Meta, you will take a critical role in the design and development of technical soft goods across our Wearables, Charging Cases, and Accessories. You will leverage your knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles, creativity, and critical problem solving skills to develop exciting new products and features.
Duration: Our internships are twelve (12) week long.
Responsibilities
Own the design of Softgoods parts and assemblies for Meta’s Wearables, Cases, and Accessories
Use your creativity and mechanical engineering expertise to generate innovative solutions to complex problems
Develop your ideas using 3D CAD
Define specifications for your parts and assemblies by building comprehensive 2D drawings
Work with cross-functional partners including Industrial Design, Human Factors, Product Management and Reliability to define engineering requirements for our products like fit, comfort, durability, and aesthetics
Perform engineering analysis of your designs using a combination of first principals, design of experiments, testing/characterization, and statistical data analysis
Prototype your designs using 3D printing, CNC, forming, bonding, and other prototyping methods to gain insights before entering production
Engage with external suppliers to deliver designs to production that are manufacturable at scale, reliable, and cost efficient
Quickly identify and resolve production issues by troubleshooting and iterating on design
Learn! Gain knowledge of how consumer products are designed and manufactured at scale. Obtain specialist knowledge of Softgoods specific materials, processes, and our unique design considerations
