About this role

Who Are We?
Are you someone that likes new challenges? Do you want to explore new technologies and help solve some of the world’s most difficult problems, like air quality and safety solutions? At TSI, these opportunities are real. Our engineers work with industry-leading experts both internally and externally. We encourage and enable our engineers to get into the field with customers to better understand their issues and solve their problems. At TSI, you make a difference – every day.

Senior Software Test Engineer at TSI
TSI delivers innovative digital solutions across desktop, mobile, and cloud platforms that connect with advanced sensing devices and IoT ecosystems. As a Senior Software Test Engineer, you are a software engineer whose product is quality: you will architect and code the automation frameworks, test tooling, and device simulators that let our teams ship with confidence. You will own the technical direction of test automation, embed testing deeply into CI/CD pipelines, and partner with developers to make our software testable by design. The ideal candidate writes production-grade code, thrives in a collaborative, agile environment, and stays current with modern engineering and testing practices.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will be responsible for:

- Test Automation Architecture and Strategy: Own the technical vision for test automation across instrument and application software. Design and build scalable, maintainable frameworks from the ground up, using sound software design principles (SOLID, design patterns, page/screen object models, dependency injection). Make architectural decisions on test tooling, languages, and infrastructure, and ensure automation plans are in place before development work begins.

- Testing Software of Measurement Instruments: Engineer automated tests for software integrated with specialized measurement instruments, including devices for air flow, aerosol and dust monitoring, indoor/outdoor air quality, fluid dynamics, particle counting, biomedical testing, contamination control, and biohazard detection. Verify the reliability, accuracy, and performance of software that controls these instruments and processes their data.

- Device Simulation and Test Tooling: Build device simulators, mocks, and test harnesses that emulate instrument behavior and data streams, including high-volume readings, edge cases, faults, and malformed or missing data. Develop internal tools and reusable libraries that make tests faster to write and easier to maintain, and support hardware-in-the-loop testing, where needed.

- Develop Comprehensive Automated Tests: Write sophisticated automated tests, covering API, UI, backend, integration, contract, and end-to-end scenarios across desktop, mobile, and cloud applications, using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Appium, TestComplete, and Bruno. Validate data integrity end to end, from device ingestion through analysis, visualization, charting, and export.

- CI/CD Integration and Test Infrastructure: Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines as quality gates. Optimize suites for speed and reliability through parallelization, test sharding, and containerized environments (e.g. Docker). Analyze failures, eliminate flaky tests, and hold automation code to the same standards as production code.

- Shift-Left Quality and Developer Partnership: Partner with software engineers on testability and design, participate in code reviews for both application and test code, and help developers strengthen unit and integration test coverage. Contribute fixes to application code when it unblocks testing or improves testability.

- Performance, Reliability, and Non-Functional Testing: Design and run performance, load, and stress tests for systems handling continuous sensor data. Establish baselines, identify bottlenecks, and track regressions over time.

- Test Data and Environment Management: Implement strategies for test data creation, anonymization, and maintenance, including synthetic data generation and database mocking. Design and manage test environments and labs for on-premise and cloud systems, using infrastructure-as-code, where practical.

- Metrics, Reporting, and Quality Transparency: Build automated reporting and dashboards for test coverage, pass rates, flaky test trends, defect insights, and bug escapes per release and/or quarterly. Keep test plans, results, and BrowserStack data current and share them with Software Teams, Product Owners, and Product Managers.

- Mentorship, Best Practices, and Innovation: Mentor test engineers and QA team members in coding and automation skills. Define automation coding standards, review test code, and promote reusable libraries and continuous improvement. Evaluate emerging tools and techniques, including AI-assisted testing, to keep our practices current.

What Do You Need?
Required

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline

- 5+ years of hands-on experience in software development and/or test automation

- Strong programming skills in at least one object-oriented language, such as C#, Java, Python, or TypeScript

- Proven experience architecting and building automation frameworks from the ground up, not only extending existing ones

- Proficiency in automated testing for API, UI, backend, integration, and end-to-end scenarios, using industry-standard tools (Playwright, Cypress, Appium, TestComplete, Bruno)

- Experience building test tooling, such as mocks, stubs, simulators, or test harnesses

- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and improving build stability and speed

- Solid understanding of software design principles, version control (Git), and code review practices

- Working knowledge of SQL and databases for test data setup and result validation

- Skilled in test data management, environment setup, and advanced testing strategies

- Willingness to assist in manual or exploratory testing, as needed

- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills

- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders

Desired

- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline

- 8+ years of hands-on experience in software development and test automation

- Experience testing software integrated with specialized measurement instruments (e.g. devices for air flow, aerosol and dust monitoring, indoor/outdoor air quality, fluid dynamics, particle counting, biomedical testing, contamination control, and biohazard detection)

- Experience with IoT or embedded systems testing, device communication protocols (e.g. MQTT, BLE, Modbus, serial), or hardware-in-the-loop setups

- Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g. k6, JMeter, Gatling, Locust)

- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS)

- Experience with contract testing (e.g. Pact) and visual regression testing

- Experience testing data-heavy applications: time-series data, analytics, charting, and data export
